CAM Weekend Backpack Program

By: Tehya Hansen

Starting the first weekend in October the CAM Weekend Backpack Program will begin for the first year. This program offers a weekend supply of nutritious meal items for children that need extra supplemental nutrition. The FFA members of CAM High School and Middle School will be putting together the items into a backpack for these students. The backpacks will be distributed to the North and South Elementary at the end of the day on Fridays.

The items are being donated through schools, community churches, and simple donations. Items you can donate include: microwave pasta, microwave soups, Easy Mac, 100 calorie packs of crackers/snacks, 100% juice boxes/pouches, fruit cups, vegetable cups, peanut butter, XL Ziploc bags, and other individual serving size pre-packaged items.

The CAM School District hopes to get the schools and community involved and become one of the schools for “Meals for the Heartland”, and they can help provide the food for the students. As of right now, the CAM Weekend Backpack Program is doing it for itself and is self-supporting. Current partners include: CAM Community Schools, Food Bank for the Heartland, ACE Club, Anita United Methodist Women, Anita Food Pantry, Union National Bank, Main Street Market, Hy-Vee, CAM FFA, Anita Congregational Church, Anita Lions Club, and The CAM Football Tackle Hunger Project.

We encourage you to sign your child up if you believe they could benefit from this program. If anyone is interested you can contact Mr. Hunt at the CAM North Elementary at

(712) 762-3343, or CAM South Elementary at (712) 779-2212.

Getting a handle on how things operate and where to put my energy. I am looking forward to finding out things that need to be focused on to make CAM a better school.

If you haven’t heard, the Ag. Business class is going to Chicago in November to visit the Chicago Board of Trade! It’s going to cost money for everyone to go. For them to raise money, they are selling chocolate bars for $1 each. It is the World’s Finest Chocolate! If you haven’t bought any, now is the time. Sales are going to end in November. There are five different kinds of chocolate bars: regular milk chocolate, almond, dark almond, W.F. Crisp (which is like a crunch candy bar) and caramel.

CAM Pummels the Trojans

By: Connor Bell

CAM Shooting Sport Team Lends a Hand

By: Gary Miller

On September 6th members of the CAM Shooting Sports Team helped Brad Wendt at BW Outfitters’ grand reopening. The members helped serve lunch to many new and old customers that visited the store. The team also sold raffle tickets for a shotgun that Brad helped them secure to help raise funds for the team. The drawing was on the same day as the reopening since Mr. Wendt was so instrumental in helping the team. Bruce Alf was the lucky winner. CAM Shooting Sports wants to thank Brad Wendt, and everyone who purchased a ticket for supporting the team.

Volleyball

By: Tierney Sothman

On Tuesday, September 16th, the CAM volleyball team traveled to Adair-Casey. There was a freshman game, but the score was not kept. There was a JV game, but they came out on the bottom. The Varsity game didn’t end up the way that was wanted by the team, but they battled to the very end.

On Thursday, September 18th, the Cougars hosted a Wounded Warrior game against Charter Oak – Ute. COU came out on top for the freshmen and JV games. For Varsity, COU won the first two games and CAM won the next two games. Unfortunately, CAM lost the 5th game by 4 points; however, they did battle until the very end.

A little over $300 was raised for the Wounded Warrior Project. There was a raffle for a blanket made by the volleyball girls and a bench made by Mackenzie Schwenke. Both prizes were won by Haley Wollum. There was also a “Chuck a Duck” contest, a collection of money from the stands every time there was an ace, and t-shirts were sold. If anyone is interested in buying a shirt there are plenty left. They are $10 each.
